ABOUT
I’m Alexis Guenier, born in 1999, I’m a French figurative painter currently living in Paris.
I paint in oils, mostly alla prima - in one time. I try to explore different things throughout my work : I’ve gone from abstract and symbolist paintings in my early university years, to portraits and still lives or, more recently, to trying landscape and plein air painting.
I like the challenges of painting, turning what’s in front of you into shapes, into blobs of colours, the challenge of finding just the right amount of abstraction and details to stay true to the impression. Painting is like a puzzle to solve - and I like puzzles.
My relationship with painting has changed a lot since I’ve started. I still paint from photo references sometimes but as of late I find myself more drawn to painting from life : after years of struggling with depression, painting from my own life has become a way for me to be present in the moment, to appreciate the natural world around me, to feel connected to my life by paying attention to the -sometimes odd- beauty that’s in it.
I’m quite introverted, and reserved when it comes to public appearance, or public speaking, but if you have any question, feel free to ask through the form on the Contact page, or to send me a message on instagram !
